About the Project
Who is sponsoring it?
The Men's Check-Up was a project conducted by the University of Washington School of Social Work. This study was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
What's unique about the project?
The check-up consists of an assessment and feedback session, using motivational interviewing clinical skills. It's brief (2 sessions), free, voluntary, and by telephone with non-judgmental staff. Men were invited to participate anonymously or confidentially. The entire project takes approximately six phone calls over a period of 4 months. Components of the project include referring participants and ineligible or un-interested callers to domestic violence and substance abuse treatment resources in their communities.
